Exchange 2003 backup log files

Post : 2. Hi, Stupid question - Are you taking full backup? If so, is there any option in backup software to delete the logs after backup? PD in reply to ismail. Post : 3. Thanks for the responses. Ismail: Because of the size of the log files and the partitians, I did move the log files to another directory prior to bringing the server back online and into production. The log files are actually in another partitian in the exact same directory structure as the database.

Paresh: Yes, I am doing a full backup, and the option to delete the files after a successful backup is selected. I have 3 exchange servers under the same backup policy. It is placed in the temporary location during the restore process. This file can be used to troubleshoot issues that may be encountered when trying to mount a store after a restore operation.

Please refer to Microsoft documentation for additional information regarding the Restore. Verifying completed restoration Once restore is completed, please check the restore. When replay starts and restored log files are played, the process deletes the restore. If restore process fails and we need to start replaying log files again, to get the restore. It will read the restore. After completing replay of restored log files; it will start looking for log files on path of storage group.

Once all log files are completed replaying you can mount the database. Now at the time of restoration, besides we are restoring last offline backup; we must replay those log files that were created since the last backup. Checking available Log files In this case log files, which are created before the offline backup, are no longer needed and you can move them to other path or delete them!! This will tell you if all log files are stable! Replaying Log files Since this offline restore and no restore.

That's scary. You're one database corruption away from losing all your Exchange data if you're not performing proper backups. If you are willing to take the risk, or you simply don't care about the old logs, you can delete them up to say the last few days , and that would get you back in operation after an Information Store services restart.

I don't recommend it and I'm sure it's highly against MS' best practice, but I've done it myself twice over the years and then forced a full backup that night of Exchange.

It'll have to be a full backup and not a differential or incremental at that point. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top.
