Joined Apr 9, Messages On my other computer, im using Windows When i turn it on, i get to where it shows the desktop, and is about to load everything up, when an error comes up. It says Explorer This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
EXE at f Registers: I would get these, but i cant just copy and paste. After that, my computer freezes up, and theres nothing i can do. I cant get into anything else. I do have a windows xp cd though. Please help!! Joined Jul 27, Messages Try this: 1 Start your computer 2 Right before the "Welcome to Windows Starting" screen, press F8 about times in a row.
One of the options is "Safe Mode. Type in msconfig. In the "Startup" tab, see if you have any spyware installed. If anything is there that you can recognize, uncheck it and pess OK. Restart and you should be fine. If that doesn't work, please state it here. I did exactly as you said.
I go into safe mode, and it says "safe mode" in all 4 corners, then i just get the explorer error, the same one as before. We have received your request and will respond promptly. Log In. Students Click Here. I have a problem when trying to open my computer with a box opening up saying explorer has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down after that box I get one saying microsoft internet error in internet explorer.
The only way I've found to be able to then access my computer as well as some of my other programs is by shutting down my computer and then when its back up I can access the my computer file before the error box again appears. This is very annoying can someone help? Did you add any new hardware specifically memory or software right before the problem started? Does it work in Safe mode? Click 'Next' again. Check all found items, and click 'next' once more.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK. Always reboot the computer between each program - both of these may find things that they need to have a reboot of the machine to clear - please reboot and let them finish.
Failing those solving your problems a post of a hijackthis log for the experts to advise. Unzip HijackThis into this folder. When you run HijackThis from this folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary.
Then run, scan, save log, then in notepad copy the FULL log by copy and paste as a reply to this post and an expert with HijackThis Knowldge, will have a go at giving advice. Please note the list of experts names below, very few forum regulars here have had this training.
I, and the other hijack experts mentioned above, are in all those sites and more with the same login names. You might get one of us at those sites also to anwser your log, but other experts will also be available. Please give some details - what op system you using win98se??
Have you been up to date with MS windows updates. If you have an anti virus installed be sure it is up to date. My uncle had something that would not crash explorer it just would not allow it to load. No idea what this was but it was installed with a windows update believe it or not.
Symantec detected it immediately while downloading it after I reinstalled windows on his system to fix the problem as I could not even get my alternate solutions to work. This was on windows 98 as well. So if you recently did a windows update that might be it. Note what is running there. If anything looks unusual post it here. If your computer seems to be loading things normally and just not explorer hence the reason for checking task manager.
Then you probably have an explorer problem, if nothing is shown then you might have whatever my uncle did. Explorer by design is supposed to restart itself if it is terminated, but when crashing this doesn't happen.
