Back in the Device Manager, scroll down to the bottom and double check that there is now an entry for the Xbox receiver:. The only thing left to do at this point is to sync your controller to the new wireless receiver.
Press the button on the receiver the light will blink then, immediately after, press the connect button on your wireless controller located at the top of the controller just above the battery pack.
The green ring of lights on the Xbox controller will rotate around and then the controller will signify which controller it is by lighting up the appropriate quadrant the wireless receiver will support up to 4 controllers for those rare multiplayer PC games. Before you dash off to play, however, we strongly recommend bookmarking, Evernote clipping, printing, or otherwise saving this tutorial if you have an aftermarket dongle. As we mentioned at the start, if you unplug the receiver you have to go back into the Device Manager and install the drivers again.
The sad thing about this is that on Windows 7, the drivers for the Xbox One Controllers specifically are supposed to download automatically when the device is plugged in. Obviously, since the Device Manager cannot identify the device in the first place, it doesn't know what drivers it needs to automatically download. It throws the following error:. Instantly I wanted to do some dirty edits to the file to add the flags and lines required for it to be supported, however before I did something so absolutely and utterly stupid as to make manual edits to driver software without any knowledge whatsoever on the subject, I decided to take the device manager for a test run.
The device drivers should install correctly now, and you'll be able to play your nerdy games with no dirty edits to the file. Hopefully this will also work on your PC. I know this question is almost a year old, but there is an easier way to get the drivers. Although Microsoft removed the standalone driver installers from their website, there are still archived versions thanks to the Wayback Machine. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.
First check if windows 10 is up to date. Make sure your time and date are correct on your windows settings. There is an "Optional Updates" button in the smallest print. Kindly check and go to driver, and download the existing drivers needed.
Then restart, plug in the Receiver. Go to the same optional updates, and updated the driver. If Updating the system doesn't help, I'll suggest you run a scan to check for problems and repair them.
