Thanks for your feedback. Hi --Jaz Just a warning that if you reset your computer to factory condition or perform a clean reinstall with a Vista installation disk that you will no longer be able to patch your OS back to end of extended support Apr using Windows Update. Since Aug many Vista SP2 users have reported that they are now seeing one of the following error messages shown in that support article, including:. I've modified the opening paragraph of my instructions on page 1 of m l's thread Updates not working, it has been searching for updates for hours to reflect this change.
This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. I have the same question 3. Report abuse. Details required :. Thanks for your feedback. I've had my machine for about years now, it's running vista home premium and is an oem version. I wasn't given a CD when I bought the machine and never had any prompt to make a disc when I first turned it on, nor did I know I had to.
Looking back I really should have asked. So now my machine is bogged down from the years of use and I'm wanting to do a fresh reinstall so I have a nice, fresh and faster windows to use. The only thing that has changed within my machine is my graphics card. And I'm not exactly trusting the person from packard bell as I suspect he just wants me to spend money that I might not need to. So, which one is actually correct?
And is it possible to do an install on an external USB drive so I can test if it works before doing it on my actual main drive for safety?
Click the Restore tab, then click Restore system to factory default. The Confirm Restoration dialogue box opens. Click Yes, then click Start. A dialogue box displays information about the hard drive that the operating system will be recovered to. Click OK. The recovery process begins by restarting your computer, then continues by copying files to your hard drive.
This process may take a while, but a Packard Bell Recovery Management screen shows you its progress. When the recovery has finished, a dialogue box prompts you to restart your computer. Your computer restarts. Follow the on-screen prompts for first-time system setup.
